EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY for January: Beautiful Chiapas

As our gray winter continues, and students have loads of Spanish homework, Spanish tests, and blah, blah, blah, remember, this is a skill that will allow you to travel and see places like this. Chiapas, México. Chiapas is a southern state that borders Guatemala and is geographically one of the most beautiful states. Chiapas is also famous because severe poverty and the Zapatista revolutionaries that are led by Subcomandante Marcos. He is pictured here, as always with his face covered. The rebellion had occurred in 1992, while I was in Mexico. I went to Chiapas ten years later and found a very peaceful state that amazed me with beautiful waterfalls and ancient ruins.
Extra credit for anyone who wants to do a report on the revolution of Chiapas and where it stands today!
(Requirements: 2 typed pages, include a couple of fotos, a paragraph with your personal reaction/thoughts, and cite the sources of your information.)
***Also, as mentioned above, I will offer extra credit to those of you who come in at lunch.
