4/29- . Watch "A Place at the Table".
Write a reaction paper to the film. This is preferably in essay format, but a thoughtful, well-written and creative stream of consciousness paper is ABSOLUTELY accepted as well. I just want to see that you have thoughtfully considered the issues.
The reaction paper can focus on any one of a variety of topics that struck you in viewing the film. If you were not in class that day and didn't see the film, I still would like you to write a piece. Possible topics include: 1.) If you don't know where you come from, you don't know who you are. 2.) What are issues of discrimination that you have experienced personally, witnessed, or see at school? 3.) What discrimination issues occur outside of school (with adults, businesses, governments, etc.) and how do these compare to what happens in school?
4.) Did your ancestors have an American dream? do you share that dream? what dreams do Americans have in common? 5.) What barriers of discrimination, if any, keep people from fulfilling their dreams?
Or simply respond to the statement, "America presents equal opportunities for all." Agree? Disagree? Cite examples from life or film.
Have fun writing. If you didn't see a place at the table, you might want to read
this famous essay, called Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack to inspire your thoughts.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions!!!
A paper is expected whether or not you were present to view the film!!!
